Liverpool play city rivals' theme song for first time in stadium.: Football rivalries were cast aside in honour of the 11-year-old Evertonian Rhys Jones, who was shot dead a week ago today in Croxteth Park. At the request of Liverpool supporters and following consultation between chief executive Rick Parry and the family of the murdered schoolboy, the Z-Cars theme synonymous with rivals Everton sounded for the first time inside this old stadium. Nice touch, Reds. I always thought the Reds fans had a touch of class.

We need more of this. I love sports. In general I just love sports. I also worry about how the specific match-up creates enemies. It is nice to see humanity recognized. Thanks wc2k2.

It is a great gesture. I heard Manuel Fernandes is wanted for questioning in relation to the death.

I always thought the Reds fans had a touch of class. Nice of you to speak so highly of yourself and me...

I'm not a hometowner, like the Scouses (or even British, oh my!), so I've considered myself a Liverpool fan, once or twice removed. One of the things that tickled (and attracted) me about the Reds, was the fan humor in the stands, the songs, and the general good sportsmanship exhibited in applauding opponents for good play, or gestures like this. I'm not discounting the Hillsborough or Heysel incidents -- those were a huge blight on any team's legacy -- but it's stuff like this that makes pro sports feel like amateur (literally, one who does something for the love of it) sports, all the good, innocent, idealistic parts of it.

I saw this on the news this morning. The whole Rhys murder is such a tragedy, nice gesture from Liverpool.
