Rugby - Fiji Style: 'Rugby is more important than anything except family' - a story from the islands of the Pacific, where the greatest Sevens players learned their trade.
In the early 90s, when I was working in Egypt, there used to be an annual rugby tournament in Cairo between teams made up of people from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Egyptians, and a few stray US oil field roughnecks. Fijians made up part of the UN peacekeeping force in the Sinai at that time, and they would send over a side. The result was very predictable. The Fijians won every year that I was there, and never had a close match. Those guys were awesome.

It is slightly over-written, but still, you just gotta love local sports fixtures.

Not a particularly well written piece*, but does describe the atmosphere of Pacific island rugby. I travel a lot in the region, and while primarily a football fan, had to learn a bit about Rugby in order to get on at work or socially. * e.g. 'baited' breath?
