"If had a drink, Jackie Parker always said: 'You've hit your limit.' Then Jackie would drink a bottle of Beefeater Gin all by himself and a quart of buttermilk in the morning just to straight himself out." Best quote I've read in quite some time. Crazy that he doesn't get any pension or retirement benefits. From a health care coverage perspective, he should be glad he's in Canada.

The more I read about the long term consequences of playing football and other violent sports, the more I wonder if I should really be watching. Sure some of them would do it again, but some die at thirty-eight with the brain of a ninety year old Alzheimer's patient and it's my eyeballs (and millions like me) who make it profitable.

I only hope these horror stories coming from the older Pro Football veterans serve to make a young man pause when he is choosing a sport on the prep level.Sports injuries are a given, but the more severe the contact, the greater the potential for permenent damage, not necessarily down the road like Argo.Young men can be paralysed after one play in football. And, as the article suggests, hockey is also right there .I don't know about rugby, but boxing and other contact martial arts certainly contribute their share to the wounded.Sounds like warfare,eh?
