Russia to Host 2014 Winter Olympics: Sochi, Russia was selected by IOC delegates on the second ballot. SportsFilter discussed the three finallists, and earlier the seven candidates.

In the first thread I said that I thought Sochi would be a joke, but now I'm starting to think it was the best choice, at least for snowsports. Pyeongchang has snow issues, and if we're being perfectly candid, so does Austria these days. I don't know about Sochi, but perhaps they still have real winters there.

Seems like a nice, safe place to hold an international event...I'll be looking for the Dolph Lundgren look-alikes in their snappy politzi unis.
