Almost 25 years after The Punch, the on-court skull-dislodging blow by Kermit Washington that almost killed Rudy Tomjanovich, the former NBA players are becoming friends. They began speaking to each other after reading John Feinstein's upcoming book about the incident.

What else has he written since A Season on the Brink, besides The Last Amateurs? Which I thought was pretty good. FYI Feinstein will be hosting Jim Rome's radio show on Wednesday. Anyone know if there is video of The Punch on the web somewhere?

I first learned about this event in the book "Breaks of the Game" by David Halberstam. (An excellent read). I think the most haunting thing was the quote by the surgeon who operated on Tomjanovich. He said piecing together the fractured bones was like "glueing an shattered egg back together". I wish somebody other than Feinstein handled this story though. For some reason I haven't enjoyed anything he's written since Season on the Brink.
