U.S. Open starts in five days.: Aside from the fact that it will all run on Linux, I'd like to draw everyone's attention to the seeds. The highest-ranking US men's player is Agassi at sixth (the next U.S. seed is Sampras, at 17th). In the women's event, however, the top four spots are taken by US players (Serena, Venus, Capriati, Davenport). A further sign of the decline of men's tennis in the U.S.? (And let's not forget the most important question: Where's Kournikova?)

I still can't believe how high ranked Tim Henman of England is! I left England in 1996 and moved to Canada, shortly Greg Rusedski was granted speedy UK citizenship to play at Wimbledon and be the great white hope of English tennis. Now 6 years later, Henman is almost the world number 1 (he was 2 or 3 last time I checked), quite a ways a head of Rusedski. I guess English tennis just needed me to leave...

I will watch the men's draw more than the women's, just like I always do. I don't care for US players anymore than the international players, but I find men's tennis more exciting.

I predict this is the tournament where attendance at women's games will overwhelm those at the men's. Maybe even provide fodder for greater prize money for women than men. (Nice touch: There's parity.)
