Needs a better link. This is basically a press release.

Red Wings beat the Flyers in the 97 Finals. Great player, it's rare that you see a player stay on the same team for 22 years.

Patience gary, I'm sure once they have the press conference a suitable link should arise. As for Stevie Y, it's sad but it's probably time. He still has it, but I'd rather see him retire now then become a veteren who stays around too long. Thanks for three Stanley Cups Steve, I wish you good luck with he rest of your life. Edit:Then again, maybe not since this isn't a FPP anymore.

Stevie Y is the last of a dying breed of athletes who stay with their team for an entire career...Detroit should be honored to call him "The Captain" for so long...

Steve Yzerman will go down as one of the great Wings of all time. I'm all about Detroit teams and his official CCM sweater is the only official uni I'd wear.

The Red Wings orginization did the absolute right thing to allow Yzerman to retire on his own terms and timing. What a classy guy! Believe me, retirement only moves Stevie into the next phase of his involvement in the game(attn: All league GM's). Yzerman could easily be the next great success to go from player to management(a la Joe Dumars for basketball).

Stevie Y. is one of the best players of our lifetime. Will never forget how he killed my Flyers in the '96 finals. Now we can only hope he doesn't make a fool of himself on television. God speed #19
