The new Seattle Seahawks Stadium saw its first competitive game this weekend: …but it wasn't football (at least not the US kind!). Soccer, in the form of, first the Vancouver Breakers and Seattle Sounders Select Women, and then the corresponding A-League men’s teams the Whitecaps and the Sounders.

As a side note, the attendance (25,515) was a record for an A-League game.

I think it's right cool that they had a soccer game for the opener. I'm sure many people that would not normally go to an A-League game went just to check out the stadium. May have converted a few folks. And, it shows that their loyalties don't always lie with the big dogs.

The Seattle Sounders of the defunct NASL christened the Kingdome as well, back in 1976, I think. Soccer has always gotten its props in Seatown. The GM of the old Sounders was a guy named Jack Daley, I was fortunate enough to be in the same class as his son Andy and we got to play a game before a Sounders game once because of that connection.

The Sounders are having a great season as well...(W-D-L 18-0-2) and have out-scored everyone else in the A-League. Pity they have to play the rest of their games in Memorial Stadium though.
