The Best Sports Films For Gay Guys...: seem awfully, well, straight, except maybe for that one with the Tom of Finland uniforms.

Great link, kirk. I was at a friend's party in SF last night and decided to surf for a couple minutes...checked out SpoFi and saw this. As I clicked the link, he came around to ask what I was looking at. The title said it all, and we laughed hard at the synchronicity of it all, because he is, well...not that there's anything wrong with that, he just got a good laugh out of it.

Bull Durham has something to do with sports? Baseball, you say? Well I'll be damned. I guess I'm going to have to watch it again. Bull Durham is the greatest chick flick of all time. Any man that loves Bull Durham is just getting in touch with his feminine side. The toe-nail painting scene is key. That's one hell of a great list. I've seen every movie on it at least once, except Long Gone. I've never even heard of that one. I will find it, though.

There are some fine movies on the list, but it wasn't what I was expecting from a list of sports films for gay guys. I was expecting either serious dramas about sexuality in sports, or movies chock full of hot 'n' sweaty mens (some of the movies listed in the sidebar commentary met one or both of these). Instead, it's a list of good sports movies, most of which revolve very much around heterosexual romances. Without the gay angle (if you'll pardon the expression), it's just a list of sports movies. From the article: The Longest Yard - Why doesn't Hollywood make prison/football movies anymore??? Actually, this was remade last year as Mean Machine which sucked rocks even though Vinnie Jones is cool. The Longest Yard rules, though.

Bull Durham is a chick flick? Auugh. You try to stay on your guard against things like this, and they sneak one past you by disguising it as a baseball movie.

Ouch. With all the talk of romance and desires to hug and comfort people, he's making Bull Durham, Hoosiers and a couple of my other sports-film favorites sound like chick flicks.
