Liverpool preparing £8 million bid for Blackburn's Damien Duff.: This will be Liverpool's fifth midfielder signing in the post-season (after Diarra, Cheyrou, Diao and, very soon, Bowyer). With Gerrard, Hamann, Murphy, Smicer, Riise and the new boys to choose from, will Liverpool have the strongest midfield in the land? Will Houllier have to start selling benchwarmers such as Diomede, Biscan and Barmby (who's rumored to be talking to 'Boro)?

I'm wondering if it's a ploy to get Bowyer to come down in price. Bloody bloke is holding out for £39K/week, while Liverpool has offered £35K/week. Maaaaaan.

And, oh yeah, if I had to choose between Bowyer and Duff, I'd go with Duff.

Why Duff!?! The boy is not that good! Liverpool should have snapped up Olisadebe from under Birmingham's nose!

The asking price for Duff is rumoured to be more like £15m due to a couple of decent performances in the world cup. Having seen the Bowyer deal fall through - this one looks more likely. He's a good player but not worth £15m. Liverpools problem with getting rid of bench warmers is that their wages are so high that nobody is willing to take them on. Liverpool have a squad of about 30 players and the wage bill must be the highest in the Premiership. Jari Litmanen is a case in point. See link

8 million for Damien Duff? Maybe, just maybe, that might put a smile on the face of Graeme "Mr cheerful" Souness.
