NASCAR and Harlequin Books team up for racing-themed romance novels.: Think there will be any "alternative-lifestyle" titles starring Jeff Gordon? via Off Wing Opinion:

Not necessarily, but I'm guessing he's a Jeff Friesen Gordon fan.

Maybe I am naive but I don't see 40% of the fan base as women. And if they were I don't see them as reading harlequin in the first place. Ask 10 women if they can name #8 or #24 and see what happens. NASCAR, like any other sport are greedy and will sell rights to the name to just about anthing. Maybe foxworthy knew something when he joked about the kotex 500.

Romance novels have a very large market. NASCAR has a very large market. I'd be very surprised if the two markets didn't cross over somewhere. And it doesn't need to be at the 40% mark for the book sales to be a success. Harlequin has long tried to enter "fringe" markets and for them this is a chance to reach people who might not otherwise take a gander at their books. They've done the same with Christian-themed novels, very successful historical genres, fantasy novels, ghost-oriented novels, vampires, time-travel etc. For NASCAR it works the same way, as the article indicates. And frankly, it's a no-lose situation. If it works, it's good for both parties. If it fails, it's no sweat off their backs.

"I went the Stilers to win the super bowl this Sunday agest the seahanks." ...Me too, but I ALSO hope to phrase it more eloquently, spell as though I have more than a 3rd grade education, and above all else, place my comment on an appropriate thread!

I love NASCAR and I love reading, but I just can't see the two melding into one. Sounds a little off the wall to me-pun intended.

I think whowever came up with this one was also 'shocked by a loose spark plug wire'. On the other hand, NASCAR did bring Tom and Nicole together.

You asked for it, you got it: NASCAR slash! Not appropriate for a work setting or prudes. 'Cause, you know, it's stories of NASCAR dudes...uuhhh...after dark, you know.

"You aren’t the first driver to get booed you know." "Yeah?" he asks turning to me once again, and I realize I’m staring into his deep cerulean eyes. Thank you for that. Almost as good as the time Mayor Curley from Mefi sent me the Spenser: For Hire slash. Well, not even close, but still great.

Spencer: For Hire slash? Nice. Obviously, the Internet was invented just for slash fiction. And we are all the richer for it.
