"Imagine being so concerned about what others think that you allow yourself to experience so little lasting joy in what you accomplish.": The Olympics bring into the spotlight many athletes who spend most of their lives training, playing, and winning in complete obscurity. Some obscure yet world-class athletes won't ever have a chance at that spotlight. Ken Dobyns, a key player in New York, New York's five consecutive UPA National Championships in the early 1990s, writes a beautiful piece on the plight of the obscure athlete -- and how it shouldn't be a plight to begin with.

in one of the more bizarre comments i have ever heard, my fellow podcaster said, "but they have no idea who you are." in fact, they know exactly who i am, although they don't know who i was.f Nice.

Blogging and podcasting. That should stop him being obscure.

That's an interesting perspective on the pursuit of sport. I did have to laugh at what the guy writes about Joe Durso while claiming no grudge against the guy. He paints him as utterly pathetic.
