Pakistan's historic victory.:

Hmmmm. While it's good to see a cricket post on SpoFi, this one's a bit dated. Since the test series, Pakistan have gone on to beat England in the ODIs as well.

Yeah, I know. Dawn Magazine only just published this article though and it's the best I've read from the Pakistani perspective that presents the victory in a historical context.

I've seldom read such a partisan, paranoid load of shit. It reads like propaganda. The so-called elite panel of umpires blundered too often in the series and 80 per cent of their blunders adversely affected Pakistan. In the first Test, Trescothic was plumb LBW to Kaneria when he was on 48. Not in the game I watched he wasn't. Daryl Hair ran amok in the second Test with his anti-Pakistan bias. He bullied young Salman Butt several times for his running on the field and after one such bullying episode, a petrified Salman fell LBW. He didn't bully him, he warned him for doing something he's not allowed to do. The notion of Salman being "petrified" is risible. He's one of the least petrified batsmen I've ever seen! Daryl Hair, it seemed, wanted to introduce a new law banning Pakistani batsmen from running across, and he wanted them to start running from the sides. It was absurdity of the highest order. As is this article - it's not a new rule invented by Daryl Hair to victimise the poor Pakistanis, it's a rule of the bloody game applied to everyone who plays it for whatever country. In David Sheppard there was an umpire who was consistently anti-Pakistan, and mercifully he has retired. Daryl Hair is another such umpire. India or Sri Lanka would never allow any umpire with any bias against them to stand in the series. As a matter of fact they have had such umpires removed before the commencement of the series. Has someone dared him to see if he can get sued? The tense atmosphere also got to umpire Koertzen, who adjudged Plunkett LBW, although he got a thick inside edge. But at that stage the decision did not really matter and Plunkett would have, in any case, perished soon to either of the two bowlers. The person who invents the Internet equivalent of being able to dish out a smack in the mouth will make a fortune, and the day and hour it happens, I'm going looking for this guy. panoptican - thank you for posting this - ridiculous as it is, it's fascinating to read (if a bit alarmingly full of shit). As for presenting the "victory in a historical context" - the writer does that about as well as Adolf Eichmann giving a lecture on Judaism.

That could have been written in Swahili and it would have made more sense.... But he must realize that Warne is a big turner of the ball and that he hardly bowls a googly. Does that hurt??

Only if you can't pick it.

Daryl Hair is an idiot. And most Pakistani media coverage is biased. These are Immutable Laws of Cricket. The last time I picked a googly, it went off the middle down to long leg. Work that one out, Lost Boy ;-).
