Pinella to kick hat from booth in '06?: Lou Pinella's ongoing stint in the broadcast booth during the ALCS is being called a success. Many have expected the former Devil Rays manager to catch on with another team, but he has yet to make plans for next season. Asked if he would make the move upstairs, Lou responded, "It's not for sure -- nothing's for sure. I like it. I'm enjoying this."
What a load of bull shit.. He's the next Yankees coach..Ya know, like Bill Murray in "Ground Hog Day" Let the games begin.

He does a pretty good job in the booth. However, with McCarver up there with him, thats alot of "ego" in one booth! My money is on him being with the Yankeees next year. I think that Joe will wind up some place as well! He has a couple of more years in him!

I think that Joe will wind up some place as well! I think Torre will just retire and wait for his HOF induction ceremony as a manager. He's got nothing left to prove as a manager, and he'll never get another team/organization like the Yankees.

I much prefer pinella to mccarver, even though is voice is kind of whiny.

Sorry guys, I'm mystified by the positive comments about Piniella here, just days after most here were defecating all over Chris Berman. Berman may be a blowhard, but he's not a snore. Piniella is. My pals and I have been pissing all over the useless addition of Piniella to the booth. As a colour commentator communicating the game to the neophytes who follow the game for 2 weeks every year, as well as the hardcore fans, he is terrible. And if you think what McCarver says is too obvious, how can you excuse Piniella? Lou says some of the dumbest things, uses lame rhetoric, starys from the game and attempts to bring in irrelevant colour stories about former ball players, and often leaves unfinished ideas with deafening pregnant silences. He is awful. The other days even my wife was spitting, "And to think we wanted this pylon to manage the team before Cito ... Where's Tony Kubek??!" Kubek used to annoy lotsa fans, but he had the craft of a TV baseball analyst down cold, I guess it's a shame he didn't drop to his knees pucker-up and kiss Steinbrenner's arse enough. Best part of linked article: Fox Sports spokesman Lou D'Ermilio said of Piniella's thoughts to stick with TV, "it's very premature for us to be thinking about next year."

I echo TRT -- I find Pinella as insightful as last week's TV Guide and as listenable as Fran Drescher.

I've been pleasantly surprised with Lou in the booth. I was cracking up in game 1 when he and "Timmy" (as Lou called Tim McCarver the entire game) got into a bit of a pissing match over predicting pitch location, defensive alignment, etc.
