Wells Suspended for six games: David wells made contact with two umpires, and was suspended, he says he did not do it. So he appealed it and LOST, now he is out for 6 games and has plenty to say about that!
You can drink beer and watch baseball,but you cant drink and play baseball.

Wells has called the commish a lot of things over the past how many years? "I'm really holding back because I've got a lot of negative things to say," he said. "I can't wait to win the World Series and have Bud Selig come up there (with the trophy). I really can't. Who knows what will come out then." But when he says this, I am not sure how I would take this if I was the commish. Now you have a player blatantly threatening you in the press. What do you do, Fine him, Suspend him further? Will a punch come out then?

Oh man, I would personally make a donation toward his bail if Wells punched Selig. That would make my year. From the Red Sox statement: "The club believes the commissioner has demonstrated visionary leadership and integrity, and we recognize that his contributions to the game have been enormous." Visionary and integrity are not words ANYONE associates with that shady car dealer.

I agree with dusted's comments regarding MLB's frontman. MLB needs to upgrade it's image and should start by sending this repo man back to the car lot. Can you think of any commissioner candidate who would not be an upgrade from this clown? (excluding Steve Howe)

I'm still wondering what everyone's got against Bud Selig, besides his bad hair and ugly mug. Why is he such a bad commissioner?

I don't honestly have anything against Bud Selig except the embarrassing steroids hearing and the policy issues that followed. Being in a position that involves having to make a lot of millionaires play "nicey-nice" with each other all the time (whether it be players or owners) is a tough job. The popularity of major league baseball is still growing, so something is obviously going right. As for Wells, I've always liked him but every year he makes an idiot of himself for one reason or another. Boston will show him the door following this season, he'll join on with another team next year, and he'll make news for some stupid action(s) again.

Here's some issues he has championed: Cancelled 1994 Series without bargaining in good faith, tried to use scabs in 1995 spring training until fan revolt, tried to put spiderman logo on bases, impartial - kept office at Brewers ballpark until 1999 and only moved out when stadium renovated, said 25 of 30 teams lost money but refused to open their books for scruntiny, waffled on steroids issue until congress got him by the short hairs, lost a $300 mil collusion case to players, owners paid for it with expansion fees so it cost them nothing, two years later he was calling for contraction by eliminating two teams and one of those was the Twins which would have provided him an geographical economic benefit- also pie split 30 ways instead of 32, his shady dealings of Expos move caused former Montreal owners owners to sue MLB under the RICO act, sold his interest in Brewers in 2004 - a mere 12 years after he took job, tried to advertise on players uniforms, bullies city and states to build new ballparks on taxpayers back or will support moving team, allowed Marlins to sell all their players from World Championship team after fans voted to finance new ballpark. Same question Ronald Reagan kicked Carter's ass with- Is baseball better off today than it was in 1992 when he took over? I'm off to BALCO and pick something up to calm down

He should go down in flames over the whole Expos fiasco and the shady deal with Loria to begin with. Selig works for the 30 people that own the teams - the best interests of baseball are a secondary consideration and that is not the ideal way, I would think, to commish the great past time.

Thanks sandman, for taking the time to go through the list. There's a lot more negatives, but that's a good start. We've had this conversation before and rocketman has asked the same question. Here's a few other quotes from rocketman:

I didn't read a direct threat toward Selig from Wells. I simply read the same ridiculous bullshit I read from Wells every time something doesn't go his way.

We all know how Wells is, the above is exactly what he said. Did you see the incident he was suspended for? Where he says he did not do any thing wrong, or make contact with anybody? Now after seeing him in that game on July 2nd, then deny that any contact was made, then say the above. How easy would it be for the commish to use the two to really hammer him. I am not saying it needs to be done, don't get me wrong. I am just saying he really set himself up this time, and I would not be surprised with all of the past comments he has made toward Selig, if Bud didn't do something about it this time.

dusted: those comments are about Selig as an owner, not as commissioner. He was a pretty lousy owner. I think he's done an okay job as commissioner. Considering he's selected by the owners, it's his job to represent their interests.

Too many cry babies in this sport. Just do your job, respect the sport and the fans, collect a paycheck and go home when it's time to call it a day. Excuses within baseball just seem to be getting out of hand. We've all heard the saying, the more I learn, the less I know. In this case it's, the more I make, the less I care.

If that's you're interpretation of the commissioner's job, I'm no longer mystified by your attitude. Well, he's hired by the owners. Did you expect that he wouldn't serve their best interests? Let's not be naive.

Mr. Wells, may indeed get some more games suspended and maybe even get fined for what he said in his press conferance. You just dont call the baseball Comish an Idiot!. His own team, the Red Sox, has apologized to the Commish for what Wells said today.... It will be interesting to see how this one turns out!
