The Fans Strike Back?: or Attack of the Clones?
MLB FAN STRIKE is scheduled to take place on JULY 11, 2002, and is to include all scheduled games in all cities on that date. The purpose of the strike is to send a message to both the Players and the Owners that we are FED UP with the labor problems in Baseball!

If the owners had any balls they would tell the union to go piss itself and bring in scabs until the pros decide to play for what they are worth. I automatically participate in this strike by not watching games in person or on TV. Oh, and they're going to need a lot more than 10,000 people (looking at the hits) for this thing to be effective. I wonder what percentage of baseball fans don't even use the net, and are they trying to promote this in traditionall media formats?

are they trying to promote this in traditionall media formats? i first heard of it on sports talk radio ... organizers across the country calling in. i think outside at least some ballparks they are trying to distribute flyers ... that's gotta be rough.

If anyone actually thinks that the players union or the owners give two flying f*cks about the fans, they're living in a dream world. However, if it will make people think they have some sort "say" in what happens in baseball and that will keep them happy, I'm all for it. I love baseball, but I'm not gullible enough to think that the fans' input it going to make a difference. Would you negotiate your next work contract and take less money (or longer hours for same pay) just because there were 100,000 nameless people out there who wanted you to? It'll probably have the same effect as those "boycott the gas stations" protests I used to get emails about from my clueless friends.

Being an insomniac I do actually watch baseball, which appears to be an exciting, if frustrating sport. Question I have to ask though, and don't slay me for it. Is that if no one turned up to the game, would anyone care? Stadiums seem virtually empty anyway.

If the owners had any balls they would tell the union to go piss itself and bring in scabs until the pros decide to play for what they are worth. Great point. Historically, the owners have been all about paying the players what they're worth. Either way, nothing'll teach baseball what's what like not showing up after you bought tickets.
