Poland vs Mexico!!: In an international friendly, Mexico will "host" Poland, April 27th at, you guessed it...Soldier Field in Chicago! With huge populations of both Mexicans and Poles, everyone is already saying its going to be one of the biggest soccer matches in the US. It will sell out for sure. And I'm gonna be there! I just hope there isn't a riot!

So who else is going?! Tickets go on sale tomorrow!

Well, if FoxSoccerChannel want to fork out for the airfare, hotel and expenses in exchange for some biting commentary, I'm game. Otherwise not so much.

Well, i doubt that bill... But i have 12 people on my ticket list and i have another friend who has 8. We're hoping to sit close to each other. But from what i hear, they are seriously separating the two groups of fans just in case... I just got a reply in an email from some Chicago Fire guy who predicts that this will be the largest soccer crowd in the States. I wouldn't be surprised. Too bad its only a friendly... There is quite a buzz here among soccer folks. What i really look forward to is the looks on people's faces who have no idea why its taking them 3-4 hours to get anywhere downtown on a Wednesday night!

Why would there be a riot at a friendly match between Mexico and Poland?

"Why would there be a riot at a friendly match between Mexico and Poland?" Over whose chorizo is bigger than whose kielbasa?

I just bought my tickets!! 12 tickets, cost me 900 bucks... But we're on the first level right at the 45 yardline! OH MAN! I am so stoked. If as many people go as they are saying its going to freak out the normals!

I just got a reply in an email from some Chicago Fire guy who predicts that this will be the largest soccer crowd in the States. What's the capacity at Soldier Field? The Cosmos, back in the day, regularly drew over 70,000 to Giants Stadium and even last summer's ChampionsWorld Tour had a few matches with similar attendance. Not to mention the 1994 World Cup Finals, plenty of huge crowds there. Still, I think it's great that America is getting more of these matches and building the fan base. And screw people in downtown Chicago who aren't aware of what's going on, this is football!

I think its around 70,000...

I was at the Juve - Man U game in Giants stadium two years ago and they announced it was the largest ever attendance in the stadium for anything...Around 76,000 or so...couldn't find exact numbers.

Man, a friend of mine almost landed a suite at the stadium... Unfortunately, the guy who owns the suite sounds like a real tool. So...no one else is going to this match?

Heck, I'm good for a beer for any spofite at the game. Just shoot me an email (in my profile).

posted by trox at 08:30 AM on March 25, 2005

Trox, you're going to be at the game?

posted by StarFucker at 09:13 AM on March 25, 2005

Ack, no. I was confused as I had just purchased tickets to US v. Guatemala (the offer still stands for Birmingham btw). Maybe if I come into some extra cash, I'll fly up for this one too. Isn't Chicago where the US is going to play England in May?

posted by trox at 10:26 AM on March 25, 2005

Yes!

trox: Why are the US and Guatemala playing in England?

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:53 PM on March 25, 2005

Birmingham, Alabama.

HA. Thanks for the clarification. Yee-haw!

They have a Birmingham in Alabama now?!

mexico plays the u.s. tomorrow in mexico city. Ooh, now that's going to be a tough crowd.

posted by etagloh at 02:45 AM on March 27, 2005

Well, Mexico beat USA 2-1 in Mexico City... Poland will be bringing their B team, Mexico...their A team. Should be an even match.

posted by StarFucker at 11:15 AM on March 28, 2005

Ooh, now that's going to be a tough crowd. Like booing the U.S. National Anthem and chanting "Osama" you mean?

posted by chris2sy at 11:26 AM on March 28, 2005

While they are imperfect, the FIFA rankings do not agree with Mr. StarFucker on whose B team will beat whose A team: Mexico 6 ... Poland 27

posted by billsaysthis at 06:37 PM on March 28, 2005

Lets see Mexico play primarily European teams and Poland play primarily Carribbean teams and see where they rank... All i'm hoping for is a good match... And a great atmosphere...i'm bringing alot of first timers to this game...
