Bill's World Cup on the Cheap Blog: One man in Seattle vowed after the 2002 World Cup Finals that he would attend the 2006 German event. This is his blog. One reason for the blog: "3. Document my heroic efforts for posterity!" What a memory for his three little kids when they grow up, eh?

This is a hilariously stupid example of over-planning. You'd want to plan ahead to get game tickets, but everything else could be done in a day, tops.

Oh, I thought for a moment that it was your blog, bill. That would've been cool.

Allright! Now I have something to blog about too since I'm planning on going... but wait, it shouldn't take more than a day to figure out as dusted points out. Oh well, I'll have to find something else interesting, like my continued suckiness in the fantasy EPL this year.

trox, blogging about actually going would be fun. Blogging about asking your wife if it's OK nine times and redeeming your airplane miles is definitely not fun.

You guys are so harsh. You also seem to be forgetting the 7P's - Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance. Seeing as his aim in the blog isn't just to recount his trip to the World Cup but to attempt to do it at the least possible cost, planning ahead seems to be the least he should do. For instance, train tickets in the UK, if bought well in advance are significantly cheaper than normal rates and I imagine the same is true for Germany. Also accomodation charges will be sky-high during the tournament, maybe if he gets in well in advance he can con some unsuspecting b+b into giving him the normal rate. Good luck to the fella, I hope he enjoys his week. And good luck to you too Trox.

I find it a bit strange that he thinks watching Croatia-Senegal will be just as fun as watching England-Germany?! Didn't he see any of the complete snoozefests in first round of Euro 2004? I know it's hard to plan when none of the teams have qualified, but seriously, I'd wait until the draw is made before buying tickets. There's a chance you won't be able to get tickets for a huge game, but even if that happens then you settle for a lesser game.

i dunno, a game between two big guns in the pool round might be more plodding and boring since they would have more impetus to be conservative vs a game between the 3rd and 4th seeds in a pool who know their best chance to pick up points would be to win the matchup with each other. so, is it possible that you can't go wrong if atmosphere is not an essential element on your list?

I can't believe he had to ask his wife over and over if for sure, she was totally okay with it and wasn't just kidding and blah blah blah... Just GO already dude!!
