MVP on steroids: Former major leaguer Ken Caminiti says he was on steroids when he won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1996, and alleges that steroids are widely used in baseball. Not that that's a shock.

Interesting article. I'm curious to know more names, as I'm sure are many others. Maybe I'm a bit too trusting, but I wonder if it really is as high as 40-50 percent. I believe Barry Bonds when he says he doesn't use them, and he's made about the biggest increase in mass of anyone. Why do I believe him? Because I've done it myself, and I know what proper nutrition and hard work can do. Using just creatine and a whey protein supplement (50g per day), I put on 15 pounds in about 2 months a couple years ago, and made incredible strength gains. And honestly I wasn't even sticking to a diet too closely. I can only imagine what would happen if I introduced a few other [safe, legal] supplements as well. There's some stuff at my gym that I'd be taking along with my trainer friends if I was able to afford it. (as a side note, keeping the weight on requires just as strict a diet... I've just recently dropped a lot of mass just as a result of being too poor/lazy to buy/prepare meat, and also due to lack of sleep) So based on personal experience, I guess I tend to believe that a lot of what we've seen is possible without steroids. I agree with Chad Curtis... he made a good point about the facial features and other things the testosterone can do. I mean, just working out and adding muscle increases the testosterone some (much to my dismay when my skin goes downhill) but not that much. I guess then for me maybe there is reason to look ahead to Jose's book, just to see if he really does name names :) (another aside, I was always a big bash brothers fan and thought that sometimes lately Jose didn't get a fair shake, but I saw him on Jim Rome the other night and really just had to shake my head... he's acting like a fool!)

According to their website, Caminiti went on ESPN radio today saying that his comments were taken out of context. Did the MLBPA get to him? Or was he drunk when he talked to SI?
