Wow, as an alumnus I'm more than a little surprised at this news. I mean, I just read an article in the last day or so which quoted Majerus as being totally enthralled and he expected this to be his last coaching stop.

billsaysthis is an alumnus of the University of Spoiled Children? ;) j/k. I used to work in LA with lots of UCLA grads. Ones who owned bumper stickers that read "My maid went to USC." Back on topic, I wonder what excuse he will have when he holds the news conference.

Digger Phelps had an interesting comment on this on Sunday night, referring to a time he considered leaving broadcasting for 'one last' coaching job. He basically said that 'last stop' in coaching is an ego thing- realistically, you're not likely to win anything more substantial than what you've done in the past, and you know in the back of your mind that your goal is to coach 5-10 more years- and then get back in the booth. So... if the goal is to prove something to yourself, and then get back to the 'comfortable' life of the analyst, then a sane person would realize that there isn't much to prove (or alternately, that if you need to win a title, that the odds of proving it are low) and just skip the intermediate 5-10 years and just stay in the booth.

Terrapin, we had fun every year during the sporting matchups wearing our buttons that were identicial to the offical UCLA product except for the helpful addition of the letter F at the beginning. Still, they did have the much more enjoyable location for Friday and Saturday night entertainment.
