Greece beat Portugal.: Euro 2004 starts with an upset.
Greece deserved the win, and Portugal were poor, especially Figo who constantly received the ball then failed to do anything with it. A definite penalty conceded by that prima-donna Ronaldo sealed their fate. It blows the group wide open, and I'm keeping an eye out as if England finish second in our group we get to play the winners of their group.

Shades of World Cup 2002 (the event not our very own)? Perhaps this Portugal side has been roundly overestimated at every turn. Great youth teams don't necessarily translate to great teams later.

This generation of Protuguese players have some real stars but have never been able to put it all together. Perhaps a poor showing at home will spur them to greater achievement in two years?

How old will Figo and Rui Costa be in two years anyway?

Greece had never won a match in a major championship before. Yet they won this one pretty easily really. They should have been 3-0 up by half time. Also on the first day, Spain beat Russia.
