Hidden: NBA 2004: The Year of the System: Look closely at what is happening in the NBA and you will see a changing of the guard. The era of the "all about the franchise player" is soon being replaced by the good ol' return of the era of The System. Sure, NBA teams like any sport need superstars to be successful. But that success comes via the strength of the system and how the superstar leads the team in executing the program. Just look at San Antonio, Sacramento, and Detroit to name a few. On the other side, look at Philadelphia where it has become all about AI, LA where they seem to have lost vision of their satorial quest for triangularity, as well as Orlando to name a few (TMac with Rivers vs. post Rivers). The reality is that the NBA is coming back to what is tried and true. When you combine a great system with great players you get great basketball, and we are seeing that in full view this year. If these observations hold any water, then we will thankfully be saying goodbye as well to something known as the "player's coach". I think I just heard Chuck Daly say amen.

I shouldn't have been flirting with the girls during SportsFilter 101! Wow! I am now official afraid to participate. Not your fault at all. To save me further embarrassment, please take this posting down as well. Ok, I think I've got it: Comment on a news article or third party posting out there = post Write something yourself w/o a link = column I have also gone through and reread all of the instructions ... I think.

PS: I put the original posting on my site because it was a helluva piece of writing and should be preserved for posterity if I may say so myself in my humble opinion blah blah blah. So please take it down along with the chastisements (just kidding) and I will behave in the future.

Khalil, I think you're a little confused about sportsfilter, and I promise I'm not picking on you :) SportsFilter is not a place to ask a question or merely state an opinion. Links should be about something new related to sports—such as a breaking news story, an interesting commentary, or a noteworthy sports site. In other words, an outside link is needed to post, and, as you already know, it can't be a self link. If you just want to give your opinion, or have something to say, a column, which any member can write, would be perfect for what you're trying to do. Members can still give comments, and if they like your writing would certainly check out your site. We need more columns anyway, and you would have the audience you want to reach with your writings. If you have any questions, or need any clarification feel free to email me.
