NIT is to sue the NCAA.: Organizers of the NIT are suing because they think the NCAA violates anti-trust laws by requiring teams to compete in the NCAA basketball tournament, if invited.

It strikes at the heart of an event that accounts for about 95 percent of the NCAA's revenue. ! I may be too young to remember the post-season NIT ever meaning fuck-all, but this seems pretty silly. I have a very difficult time seeing why a team would elect to forgo the NCAA tourney in favor of the NIT. Yeah, the article cites the Al McGuire incident in 1970 but that seems like more of a hissy-fit than anything else. Teams and players have a single end-goal at the end of the year, and it isn't the NIT. I'll be a bit surprised if this gets past the Summary Judgment stage.

If forks was around, he would ask NIT: legit tournament or fun for the losers?
