What language will get you red carded?: Language mapping for referees. Apparently this is serious. Does this map match your mind map of offensive language? Happy Friday, you f*** t**** s***! [via BoingBoing]

Interesting, though that type of [Gestures] [Offensive] could never work among a bunch of [Insulting] [Racial epithets] such as us. Er, pardon my fuckin' French.

"Bitch" and "Dickhead" don't get asterisked out, but "W*nker" does?

Arsehole doesn't get ampersanded out, but Sh&g does? There's a story told about Jim Valvano where he asked the referee if he could get thrown out for what he was thinking.....the ref said no, and then Valvano said "good - cause I think you suck."

The Levels of Tolerance section (near the bottom) is a good primer for beginner referees in any sport.

So, it's worse to call the ref a cheat than to call him a shit? Apocryphal story told in/of every sport: Player: "What would happen if I called you a c*nt?" Referee: "I'd send you off." Player: "What if I just thought it?" Referee: "Not much I could do about that." Player: "Well, in that case, I think you're a c*nt."
