If only Katie Couric would talk about this game....it had it all.

6-5? is that a recap from the 80s?

It sure felt like it. What an awesome game. Except nobody almost died, so of course the Today Show wouldn't consider it newsworthy. Although some outlets, like CNN/SI, are trying to atone, I just don't see the great things that have been happening this season (is it just me, or has this been an above average year for quality play and competition?) getting the play in the papers that the One Bad Thing got.

I agree with chicobangs on this one. It sure feels like the quality of the play and intensity of the games right now is better than the last couple of years. Maybe it's because there are some very good conference races that are going to go down to the wire? Either way it's a shame all the limelight is focusing on hockey's 'bad side'. Never mind the fact the baseball pitchers 5 months from now will, at worst, be called 'old school' for attemping to hit a guy in the head with a 100mph fastball. I regards to the CNN/SI article they hit the nail on the head in regards to Iginla. Iginila should really be up for the Hart trophy again this year. I've actually meet him, and he comes accross as a very sincer and classy individual. Here is a guy who is in a race for the Rocket Richard trophy on a very low scoring team, and he still manages to get in a good dust up from time to time (He had a really good scrap with Nashville's Jordon TooToo recently). His performace at the Olympics was awsome, yet it was largely overlooked. He does shy away from the limelight, but the biggest reason he doesn't get much press is because of were he plays. If he played out east he would get for more attention from the media.

I watched some of this game, and wasn't disappointed for entertainment (despite the woefully wrong and horrible outcome, of course). Of course there's tons of good hockey being played this year. We're all fans for a reason. The playoff race in the East is gonna reach a boil starting tonight with Toronto vs Boston. It only gets better. Tons of meaningful matchups. The league schedulers knew what they were doing. Battle of Ontario to close the season? Jesus H. The NHL is indeed a much better league with Iginla. He is one of the league's gems. The complete player, impossible to hate. Future Team Canada captain one day? Who knows.

Last night's game, more than any other this year (as a Leaf fan) had me both hating and loving the team. I probably leaped from my chair at least 6 different times (in both joy and anger). My voice was hoarse by the end, and the cats had gone into hiding. In the past couple of years I've become more and more of a baseball fan than a hockey fan. It's sacriligeous to even think that as a Canadian, but the professional game had gotten really boring. But when 2004 rolled around, I noticed that things really started to pick up, especially in the Eastern conference. Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, Ottawa, New Jersey : all five of these teams seem to have a real "hate" for the other four, and these games are ALWAYS intense (and exciting). Tampa Bay might make it to the finals because these five might kill each other if any of them meet in the first round. [Iginla's] performace at the Olympics was awsome, yet it was largely overlooked. /looks over shoulder at Iginla-in-a-Team-Canada-jersey bobble-head doll. Not by me!

Does anyone have GAA stats for the season? I know the season started with yet another low GAA, but it seems like ever since January there's been a vast number of high scoring games. There's been a lot of 5-4 games and a lot of blowouts (7-1, 9-3, 6-0, etc..) The last few months have had the best regular season hockey that I've seen in years. And this season has been very streaky, it seems. One of the hottest teams in the league right now is Pittsburgh (!??) . It's going to end up as: hottest team in the East during the next two weeks will win the East (and Tampa Bay is starting to cool, again).
