On cross-examination, defense lawyer Billy Martin tried to expose discrepancies in statements Bumbaco has given. Bumbaco admitted lying about what really happened when he gave a sworn statement just hours after the shooting. Ten days later, he contacted authorities and gave another statement. It's difficult to imagine what might have made Bumbaco lie shortly after the incident. I'm guessing that having some idiot with a shotgun who would probably free on bail not be happy with your story might weigh on your mind a bit.
