Ernie shoots 60 in the first round in Melbourne: "I felt a lot of pressure in the last six or seven holes and especially on the final two, as you don’t get these chances too often,” he said. “I’ve had four 61s before but never a 60, except for one in my own invitational event at Fancourt last December, when I was half-cut."

He followed that up with a 66 in the second round. He is now 18 under and leads by 7 at the halfway stage. If Tiger didn't exist, would we all be dribbling over Ernie?

Ernie outplayed Tiger in three of the four majors last season, and I'm willing to bet that trend will continue this year. I can see Els snagging at least one of the majors in 2004. If anyone can give Woods a run for his money, I think he's the guy and this is the year.

I knocked it round St Andrews in 43 last week, but I was half-cut. And playing Tiger Woods 2003 on the X-Box.

What's half-cut? Slightly drunk? Stoned? Confused?

Drunk, usually.
