In case you missed it...: Unlovable loser Al Davis has hired lovable loser Norv Turner to be the head man for the Oakland Raiders. While some might question why anyone would want to take this team, ESPN's Ray Ratto thinks the better question is — why not? Any predictions on how long Norv lasts?

Three seasons, but he gets fired midway through the third one. In 41 games his record ends up at 16-25 with the Raiders missing the playoffs in both full seasons, then squeak in after the new coach finishes that season 5-2 (9-7 overall) because parity is complete in the 2006-7 season. Seriously, the Raiders would have been much better off waiting a week for Weis or Crennel but Davis probably figured that neither would live under his system. Turner, realizing he's not getting many mroe shots at the 'top' job, was more amenable.

I think this makes sense for Norv for the reasons Ratto pointed out. I also think this team is not totally screwed in a talent sense, although they have got to get a QB and quickly. I give him three years and he makes the playoffs in 2005.
