Barry Melrose, longtime NHL player, coach and ESPN icon, dies at 70 after battle with Parkinson's: Former NHL player, coach and iconic ESPN hockey analyst Barry Melrose died on Wednesday, his wife Cindy confirmed to ESPN.

He was 70.

Barry Melrose was Mr. Hockey to me during the 1990s and 2000s before ESPN lost the sport. As big a voice in the NHL as Al Michaels in the NFL. I was going to say as big as John Madden but that's going too far.

For some reason I haven't watched studio segments as much since ESPN regained the sport. I watch the games but skip the rest.
