The rule showed up on one of the annual rules exams in NH. The situation is also covered in the high school case book. Wait, what? 4 outs in an inning? At least some of the Jays, as well as the Red Sox were also confused by the incorrect scoreboard. Had Toronto stayed on the field after the out was recorded at 1st base, they could have executed a dead ball appeal at 3rd base, claimed a 4th out, and the run would not have counted.
