Vin Baker says he's not drinking,: but the word on the street (no permalinks, sorry) is that he was just suspended for three games. The Dirt Dogs probably picked it up from WEEI, which just aired the story. Baker's been in a major slump for a little while now, averaging only 3 points over his last four games. Coach O'Brien, in his pre-game interview yesterday, said that he thought Baker had been slumping for over a month. Some local fans asked if Baker'd been drinking again, but I don't think anyone wanted to believe it. I certainly didn't, and I wish Baker the best of luck.

Sad, but apparently true. From the Celtics official website: Statement On Vin Baker The Boston Celtics announced Jan. 6 that the team was notified of Vin Baker's non-compliance with his treatment program by a doctor jointly selected by Baker and the Celtics to oversee his aftercare. This non-compliance results in an automatic fine of an undisclosed sum and a three-game suspension effective immediately. The dirt dogs claim the Celtics have a contract out. I think there may be a tier system here, the "automatic fine" lends creedance to that. Lets hope Vin can get it together before we have to find out for sure.

Sux. He looked like a new man at the beginning of the year. However, he's looked a lot like last year's Vin the past few weeks.

This is sadder than sad.

sad. ok, putting the sad aspect aside... is there an "out" clause the team can exercise, like BDD alludes to? getting out from under that contract would be sweet.

He needs to get out of basketball and clean up. I know when someone is trying to rehab it can be helpful to keep working and all, but I think part of Vin's problem is that his work is so demanding that he cannot focus on getting himself right. Anyway...I knew his numbers were too good to be true.
