I had heard that high school football was in a decline with lower participation numbers over the last several years, but yesterday I found out that our once robust three town regional high school football program is on the verge of not being able to field a team due to lack of players.

I saw the trend developing when I coached boys soccer. Some of the kids were double rostered in soccer and football and were getting concussed in football games and practices. When they were cleared to play again, they dropped football and stuck with soccer.

Are the shrinking high school participation numbers happening everywhere or is it just in some parts of the country?
