The Comrie affair is over: , and the winner is: Philadelphia. the Oilers traded the 23-year-old to Philadelphia for minor-league defenceman Jeff Woywitka, a 2004 first round draft pick and a third round pick in 2005. Is it a good deal? Bob McKenzie thinks it's better for Edmonton than Anaheim's proposal, but only the long-term will show who the real winner is. However, the question remains: with Comrie, are the Flyers now the best contenders for the Stanley Cup?
Bobby Clarke — the hockey equivalent of the background of Grum's user page. GodDAMN, that's funny. I thought the Flyers had the stronger line-up before, and this just puts the icing on the ... err, ice. Still, whatever weird mojo Pat has managed to wrap around his team is pretty amazing, and it's almost a guarantee that no Philly team will ever have that.

I'm not sure what Booby Clarke is doing. The same goes for Kevin Lowe. The Flyers are deep at center, so this acquistion smells of a turn around for the goaltender that will take Philly to the promised land. Esche and Hackett won't win anybody a cup.

Beasts of the east? Wow, being a native of the area, it always makes me laugh to hear the hype of the black and white. And I'm a full-fledged puck fan here. In what will probably get full agreement from all of the fellow Flyers fans out there, GM Bobby Clarke will most certainly find a way to screw everything up, whether it's making a few terrible trades or signing a Brad Marsh/Petr Svoboda/Kevin Haller/(insert ex-once-was-good-but-now-is-a-washed-up-former Flyer here) at the deadline for the stretch run to "turn this team into a major contender." It's really something to watch every season. Until Ed Snider and Bobby Clarke and the rest of the Old Boys Network are history, I find it hard to believe this team could ever win a cup in the near future. There's always some kind of letdown or mental block (see NJ or Ottawa) or something. OK, this scrooge is done going off on his beloved Flyers for now. I've got to spread the wealth and go look for a reason that the Eagles are going to find a way to lose in the NFC championship again this season. :-)

Yes, they are probably the beasts of the east. But thankfully, they have Bobby Clarke as their GM. That guarantees some underperformance by the team, then some moronic criticism of a star player (my guess: Tony Amonte), leading to estrangement and eventually trading that player. That will be followed up by the firing of the coach, the acquisition of ANOTHER goaltender, and a promise by Clarke that THIS year, they'll win it.
