I remember him flying down the right wing, getting about 5 or 10 feet inside the blue line, and letting go his thundering slap shot. It was on net more often than not, and might well have led to a career change decision by more than a few goaltenders. Bruins swept the Blackhawks in the 1970 Stanley Cup semifinals, largely due to an incredible defensive performance on Hull by Eddie Westfall. The story was that after the final game of the series, Hull had to peel Westfall off of his sweater before he could shower.
Perhaps I shouldn't speak of one of Hull's defeats, but perhaps he was at his best at those times. Outside TD Garden in Boston is a statue of Bobby Orr, flying through the air after scoring the goal against St. Louis that won the cup for Bruins. I walk by it on the way into the Celtics games I attend, and now I have someone else to honor.

As he got about five or ten feet inside the blue line, he unleashed a thunderous slap shot, and I still remember the sound. More often than not, it found the back of the net, and more than a few goaltenders may have considered a career switch as a result. With Hull being shut down so well by Eddie Westfall, the Bruins were able to sweep the Blackhawks and go to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1970. According to legend, Hull had to peel Westfall off of his sweater before he could take a shower after the series finale. drift hunters
