Was punting viewed in a strategic way other than push the other team as far back as possible before Ray Guy? I remember some network running a hang time clock whenever he punted.

With 10 minutes left in the second quarter, it looks safe to say that North Texas is now bowl eligible.

I loved it when Al Davis drafted Ray Guy in the first round. No one had ever done anything like that. But it fit Davis' offensive philosophy.
If the Raiders whiffed on three boom or bust plays in a row, Ray Guy would come in and make the opponent wish that the Raiders had made a first down. Not only were the Raiders' starting O and D units rough and tough, but their special teams played like they were on day release from San Quentin. No one wanted to field Guy's mammoth punts and then get flattened by the manic onrushers.

RIP Ray Guy, punter extraordinaire and beast hero of my youth.
