Watched a bit of the 1991 UNC - Kansas Final Four game as a historical warmup for tonight's contest.

Footnotes abound:

- Former UNC assistant Roy Williams against his mentor Dean Smith
- UNC's leading scorer: Hubert Davis
- Jim Nantz' first Final Four broadcast
- Game reffed by Gerry Donaghy - father of Tim Donaghy
- Dean Smith got ejected with two technicals - a landmark rarity
- Kansas went on to play Duke for the title; Duke won, giving Coach K his first championship
- Roy wasn't able to win a title while he was at Kansas. Then after he took the UNC job he wasn't able to beat Kansas
- Tonight's game: Roy Williams' replacement at Kansas vs. his replacement at UNC

I'm sure there's more. It's a small world at the top.

I'm pulling for the team that used to be coached by Roy and has blue in their team colors.

Entering Final Four weekend would have bet the house that a team wearing blue would win.

Bacot's late injury

So have played on a number of University courts where you had to know where the dead spots were but nothing as bad as that.

What a shame. Bacot was by far the best player in the F4. Outcome may have been different if he was still in the game defending Kansas' pivotal 2 interior baskets. We will never know.

But the NCAA is happy with all of the money they made playing in a venue built for football and monster trucks.

Caleb Love's injury also took place at that end of the floor some minutes earlier, fairly close to that spot. There has been some murmuring about the floor in the aftermath of the Final Four.

From what I can tell, it was a new floor, installed in a fairly short period of time. There seemed to be more concern about executing the logo design and paint scheme than the installation itself.
