Last year, Sam Darnold was named among the 10 players most likely to win the 2021 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.

Disregarding the concept that a player has to have gotten somewhere first before they can stage a comeback.

The league realized it had to do better.

So they decided to bestow the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year award six months before the start of the regular season.
