"Derrick Davis was holding the only winning tickets in the world for the biggest bet on the biggest day in horse racing. He held claim to the entire pot reserved for the winner of the highest bet -- in this case, the Pick Six -- and would have been entitled to $3.1 million." ABC News describes the betting software scam that was upset when a 43-to-1 shot named Volponi took the 2002 Breeder's Cup.

Tres interessant - especially the part where everyone all but admits that had Volpuni not won, they would have continued to get away with this ad infinitum. Also another interesting article the page iinks to is how MIT students basically did algorithims and whatnot to beat blackjack for hundreds of thousands completely legally for years in Vegas. MGM is making a movie about (obstensibly to recoup some of the losses). Is no one else going to read this? These people have astonishing balls.

This made me not trust the betting system at all. If you win, it seems to raise red flags. Bringing Down the House is the book about those MIT kids. A very good read.
