Useless Factoids about the 2003 World Series: Once again, Jayson Stark comes up with a bunch of goofy stats and nifty factoids about the World Series. My favorite is that while the Marlins now have two World Series championships in their franchise history, only one franchise in baseball has played fewer winning seasons than the Marlins have. (That would be the Devil Rays, with zero.)
Actually, that's 0-22 at making the World Series in a winning season. Which is why the Marlins are at a perfect 100%.

>Since 1999, heading into Beckett's start in Game 6, pitchers had made 37 postseason starts on short rest. They'd gone 6-20, with a 5.93 ERA. As a group these gents were probably were better pitchers than 6-20, so this stat says something. /slight aside >(That would be the Devil Rays, with zero.) Didn't the Devil Rays sign Wade Boggs to a retirement contract with a clause that he wear a T-Bay cap if inducted into the Hall?

If they did, it's a mistake on their part. The rules have been changed (maybe because of that rumour) so that the HOF makes the decision on who wears what cap (re: Gary Carter and the Expos cap).
