Yes, Elway sure pissed away an opportunity with his handling of the QB situation when the Broncos had the most dominant D in football (Peyton aside). Back then an average Flacco would have been all they needed.
The whole Broncos situation looks like a mirror of what happened to San Francisco after the Yorks took control. One day fighting for a Superbowl, the next having a difficult time finding coaches and players who actually want to be there. Get ready for 15 years of mediocrity ...

Elway has had a weird career as a GM so far; his moves have either been ridiculously successful or complete failures.
Convincing Manning to sign to put together one of the greatest offences of all time but whiffing on every QB draft pick. Retooling from that offence to a completely dominant defence in just two years to win a SB but then have all the coaches retire or do Son of Bum things. Drafted Miller, assembling the No-Fly Zone then 3 years of draft mediocrity. Signed Vance Joseph way over his head but absolutely kills last years draft.
I don't like the Flacco move but if I squint enough I can see what they're trying to do. Losing the pick is more annoying than the cap space, an extra DB or OL coming in would be nice. Either way the highest priority should be getting a coach in place who can maximize that defence before it falls apart and they seem to have done that.

Last minute Valentine's Day gift question:
What are those little towels that Olympic divers dry off with after they get out of the pool, and where do you get them? Looks like they could come in handy.
Are they scented?

Looks like the Broncos will have around $30 million in cap space tied up in the dynamic duo of Joe Flacco and Case Keenum no matter what happens to either one of them.
This reminds me of the classic movie Wings of Eagles with John Wayne featured in the role of legendary Navy pilot "Spig" Wead.
At one point Wayne says to his men: "There are four ways to do things. The right way, the wrong way, the Navy way, and my way".
It's time to add a fifth way to the list. The Elway.
