Yeah, when I saw that replay, I wondered what the best move is as the lone offensive player left chasing down that fumble.
Jumping on it left them with terrible field position, and they'd probably be punting from their own end zone, giving the opposition great field position.
Kicking it through the end zone gives the other team 2 points, but at least they kick off would be from a better point than a punt.
The best thing that could have happend was the opposing player keeps fumbling it into your own end zone, and THEN you push/kick it out the back of the end zone (or fall on it). I think at that point it would have been called a touchback, right?
(Since the opposing player touched it last before it went into the end zone.)

I'm amused by this line, "Mississippi State proudly tweeted the hilarious moment," and I think "proudly" belongs in quotation marks. Louisiana Tech may have made the initial mistake that cost them a ridiculous amount of yards, but the three Mississippi State D linemen who swatted, flubbed, and booted the ball 62 yards down the field and ultimately failed to recover it were the inept ones. Good on La Tech #81 who ultimately reclaimed the ball. The fuzzy video makes it tough to tell, but I believe he is the slot receiver on the far side who appears to run a button-hook to the goal line and then sprint 93 yards the other way to save his team some points.
