According to FIBA: at the Panamerican Qualifiers the Argentines sit atop group A, and the American's top group B. The Virgin Islands and Uruguay both appear on their way out. And they're warming up on the other side of the pond. More inside...
Najera and Gaurasci Tussle.
Nowitzki goes down.
So does Gordan Giricek.

Bye the bye, anyone see a Canuck is leading the Panamerican tourney in scoring? That there isn't an American currently in the top 10?

I find it interesting that just as the USA makes great strides in football, the rest of the world is catching up fast in basketball. Now all we need is a European League that can rival the NBA, and for MLS to rival the best European Leagues.

The Americans have spread their scoing around. I think Duncan and McGrady have topped the scoring with totals around 17 points with another 4 or 5 guys clustered around 14 or 15pts. The other teams would have a prefered scoring threat or two whereas the Americans are essentially 10 or 11 scorers deep (we'll leave Nick Collision out of the consideration since he's the token rookie). By the by, Iverson got 28 last night so the Americans certainly would have a player in the top 10 scorers if they weren't using so much of their bench. Or something.

"International glory or professional ruin?" This is an interesting piece on international competition. I like the idea of a basketball equivalent to soccer's Champion's League Cup. The closest we have now is the McDonalds' Championship, last held in 1999 I believe.

Check out this schedule. A flurry of friendlies and tournaments heading into Eurobasket 2003. Nearly 2 months of basketball held in the name of national pride. Hope some of these are televised here in the States!
Anyone have any personal (or not so personal) faves? Any players to watch out for?
How about Anderson Varejão? Or Victor Khryapa? Milos Vujanic?
