Football question - does a touchdown scored on a 3rd down count as a 3rd down conversion? (got curious after watching the Pats highlights where they mentioned just how bad they are this year on 3rd down conversions)

I cannot find a direct answer to this question, but what I have found seems to hint that the answer is yes. Consider that the team that scores actually retains possession of the ball in order to try for the extra point and then to execute a kickoff, it would seem that scoring a touchdown, or indeed scoring a field goal on 4th down are conversions.

I also don't know the answer to that question, but speaking of the Pats, apparently every point scored between NE and Oakland was scored by a 'kowski.

Yes, scores on 3rd down are counted as conversions. Technically, if a team went for a field goal on 3rd down and made it, it would be a conversion.

I bet Elias doesn't keep statistics on that one.
