Gus Johnson Booted as Fox Soccer Announcer: Gus Johnson has stepped down as Fox's No. 1 soccer broadcaster. When Fox Sports president Eric Shanks was asked whether Johnson being widely reviled calling the sport was a reason for the move, he said no but added, "I am not going to lie and say we were unaware of it."
Glad to see the change. No ill feelings personally towards Johnson, but a bit of hubris on the part of Fox (and perhaps him as well) in seemingly thinking that you can just plug talent from one sport into another and it will work fine (and that's putting aside that he's not actually a particularly good announcer in other sports, at least to my tastes).
Good take on this in The Guardian, from someone who understands sports television on both sides of the Atlantic.
