SportsFilter: The Tuesday Huddle:
A place to discuss the sports stories that aren't making news, share links that aren't quite front-page material, and diagram plays on your hand. Remember to count to five Mississippi before commenting in anger.
There's something familiar about Qatar's new Al-Wakrah stadium, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
The women of the world would exhort you to look more closely. Maybe spend a little time around the perimeter before focusing on the negative space.

Speaking of, Ronaldo scored again tonight in the second leg of the Portugal-Sweden world cup qualifying play off to follow up on the goal that gave Portugal a 1-0 win in the first game.
The away goals rule means that Sweden now have to score three to win, so Zlatan has woken up and immediately put in two goals because he can.
Nicely set up with 15 minutes to play for him to grab his hattrick in front of home fans to send Sweden to the World Cup and be named King of Everything.
Or, you know, Ronaldo to get a hattrick. Whichever.

And then 2 from Ronaldo in response.

Sweden out, France came back to beat Ukraine and Iceland didn't make it.
What a terrible evening.

Same five countries from Africa as last time: Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Algeria and Ghana. Disappointed not to see Ethiopia qualify.
Greece through as well. Given their economic circumstances, it's nice to see they save money by driving to the ground in the same bus that they park in front of goal.

By the way. It seems that Qatar is already prepared for a Brazilian World Cup.

I was hoping Egypt could get past Ghana though after the first leg it was a foregone conclusion. Especially if USA got drawn against Egypt in the group so we could see Michael teach his dad a few lessons ;)
Portugal is surely going to offer a field test of the Single Great Player hypothesis next summer, I think.
