Nandrolone: rears its illegal head again today this time stinging Patrick Nilson, brother of Florida Panther winger Marcus Nilson, with the possibility of losing his contract and being barred for two years from the Swedish premier ice hockey division. I can't for the life of me remember the last time the NHL punished a player for 'roids, which the players obviously use given the NHLPA's aggressive push to limit drug testing for the Salt Lake games until after the Playoffs. I'd use a more recent example, but there aren't any, and please correct me if I'm wrong. Does the NHL even have a policy for performance enhancers, and if so, is it as stringent as the MLB that openly lets folk go through puberty-type muscle growth at age 33? I guess I don't have point other than being irked by the lack of regulation and the acceptance of obvious 'roid results despite the homogenized moniker.
I miss hockey season.

Boy that nandrolone really turned Patrick Nilson into a roid raging monster I bet. Terror of the Swedish Elite League - kinda like being the valedictorian in summer school. Zing! I don't miss hockey season at all Garf. So. Freaking. Boring. Or maybe that's just the Leaf telecasts - and at least they goon it up proper like.

That Hasek story is interesting. Do ya think its because he's a compettive monster - even in roller hockey? Just add him to list of the all-time greats who were all-time assholes. Barry Bonds, Ted Williams (this barrel of laughs used to count the seams in a baseball for fun), Ty Cobb, Terry Sawchuck, Michael Jordan....

Does the US have an extradition treaty with the Czech Republic? Is the Dominator going down? Do they have a hockey team in the Prague Prison? LMAO!!!

We'll have to wait and see if he takes a fall, but I'd love to see the Wings left with Legace, and the Blues playing Cujo. And I'm revelling in the irony of the spot light hungry Hasek getting attention for all the wrong reasons, immediately after he annouces he just couldn't stand not playing in the NHL. What a prima donna! Great goalie, a real shame about the guy.

For those of you who are just waiting for the season to begin, check out P.J. Stock's summer journal entry. That guy's a riot.

I guess the pen is mightier than the sword after all. A real shame about Girard. He was definitely a bright spot for the Bs last year.

and this is the most disappointing reality of the day.

Girard was a nightmare defensively, but mostly because they paired hiim with Berard, who is just as flashy on offense and inept in his own zone as John was (and is pretty much blind in one eye to boot). Put Girard with a Stay-at-homer and he'd be great. Hopefully this doesn't ruin his career. No published reports on how long he'll be out, but internet nerds are indicating that he'll be out for the whole season.

Back to sport drug news: is the professional sports world that allows certain enhancers while banning others just asking for trouble? and is such a sports culture somewhat responsible for contributing to injury that directly stems from said lax enhancer policy? I'm starting to think egg-chicken, chicken-egg, but a stricter policy on enhancers would reduce the risk. Except for wrestling entertainers, they should look stupidly massive, and I can't stand that male soap opera crap anyways.

In a related story, related in that it is sports related, Dominik Hasek had and now has good reason to want to play hockey in North America this year. Cracking vertebrae usually gets you more than having to make an unapologetic press release.
