Brett Cecil is going to the all-star game. The odds you could've gotten on that pre-season would be astronomical.

Also, I really like Manny Machado, but getting picked over Josh Donaldson, Adrian Beltre and Evan Longoria? Pretty weak. Donaldson's OPS is 100 points higher.

Weirdness: saw Matt Bonner introduce Deer Tick last night. The stage was outside under a tent and he basically had to fold himself in half to be seen.

Machado's been getting a lot of press for his season, but much of his value is on the defensive side, so it can be harder to see. Fangraphs' WAR has him as #3 in the AL behind Cabrera and Longoria, but look at that fielding number. I want to see guys like that in the All-Star Game too.

Showboating Silva Slugged Senseless

It's not the first time he's pulled that nonsense in the ring, but hopefully it's the last time.

He'd lost the first round, being taken down in the first half of the round and then on the end of some decent, if inconclusive ground-and-pound, before spending the second half of the round goading Weidman.

He started the second pulling the same BS and that didn't go so well.

Even seen full-speed, that didn't seem like a knockout punch. One that might wobble a guy some, maybe, but I guess when you don't see it coming at all, good night and thank you for playing.

It didn't look like that much of a punch to me either, but I think that awkward backhand attempt made Silva move his head one way as the punch is coming the other.

It's a real shame his reign had to end this way and not with a barnstorming performance from his opponent like the first Chael Sonnen fight.

I think the first punch stun him enough to knock him off balance a bit. He fell, which stunned him a bit more, and then that first punch while he's on the ground...that's the knockout shot.
