New York Cosmos Will Join NASL: The New York Cosmos are joining the North American Soccer League (NASL), the second-tier of U.S. pro soccer, in the hopes of one day reaching the MLS. The original Cosmos management spent $10 million, generated some hype and got Pelé and Eric Cantona attached to the effort, but this line from Grant Wahl shows how that all worked out: "An actual team with real players is coming."
I thought Wahl's story was confusing too. The bottom line is that the new management isn't blowing through money and has a more realistic plan.
It would be nice to see the Cosmos in the MLS, preferably with a Brazilian soccer star as one of their foreign players. David Beckham has the right to buy an MLS expansion franchise when he quits playing. Maybe he could join them and bring another New York team into the league.

This was very confusing at first, but turned out to be pretty interesting. They would certainly have one of the better logos in MLS. It's remarkable that they are already in a position to expand in that way.
