The NBA season is on life support at this point. Players rejected a deal, say they will file a lawsuit. ESPN will be forced to cover hockey and hell will freeze over.

No they won't. They'll just ramp up the poker.

ESPN will be forced to cover hockey
I think they've made it absolutely crystal clear that they will not cover hockey under any circumstances. They'll dedicate the time to talking about the absence of NBA basketball rather than showing individual game highlights.
Remember back around June when I suggested ESPN would act like a petulant child after being outbid by NBC/Versus for NHL rights? I've never been more unhappy to be right.

There must be some Spelling Bees they can cover.

Well, to be fair ESPN has actually already shown some individual game highlights this season. Not any night there's football on, of course. At a certain point this year the only sports that will be going on will be NHL hockey and college basketball, provided the NBA loses its season.

Or Strongmen Competitions.

Why have Barry 'I will forever sport the mullet for as long as freakin' possible' Melrose on the payroll if they chose to not cover hockey?

I think they should spend all that airtime just showing Packer victories over the years. A very nice way to recognize a fine, upstanding football team.

...and hell will freeze over.
And Bettman will find a way to schedule a doubleheader on it...

Following the success of Fox's glowing puck, ESPN have come up with a way to make hockey even more exciting.

Maybe Rex doesn't really think Belichick is better.
