Barret Robbins talks about going AWOL ...: Oakland has him back in the fold, but it has been made clear that the Raider players will decide whether he sticks around or not. Could you have Robbins on your team after he bailed before the biggest game of your life?

When this story broke, I remember thinking this guy was weak and was blowing what might be his one opportunity for him and his team to get a Championship ring. I put it right up there with Eugene Robinson soliciting an undercover for sex. I understood the fact that the Raiders would never want him again and could care less how they treated him because he let them down. Imagine being in the biggest game of your life and all the media asks you about is 'Where is Barret?" Then about a month ago, a friend of mine from my home town had a similar type of breakdown, and it kind of put this in perspective when I saw this interview. I guess you feel sorry for the guy and just hope he gets better. Although, I have to commend him on wanting to remain a Raider. It's my guess that a lesser man would want a fresh start with a new team.

I'm in the same boat, Bull. I'm a harsh guy when it comes to people claiming illness as an excuse for lousy behavior and life choices (call on the white courtesy phone for Mr. Eustachy?). But in Barret's case, I think this guy basically lost his mind. I also have to wonder — how did the Raider organization not see something like this coming? The guy's a full-blown alcoholic and no one noticed? Or was it just that no one cared, and it blew up at the wrong time?

I think the alcoholism can often mistaken for 'fun-loving' or the like. But I'm at a loss how the bi-polar thing slipped past everyone, including his close friends. And picking his daughter up from school drunk? I'd bitch slap this guy myself if he wasn't on the other coast and 3x my size.
